Hi, my name is Aphiraa. I'm a visual artist based in the Greater Toronto Area .
Human emotions, music, and mother nature inspire me. Trauma, healing, and love are reoccurring themes in my work. I've been painting since I was 9 years old. And soon after started exploring photography at the age of 15. To me, visual art is the best form of expression for emotions which can not be explained in words.
I believe that art can be used as a powerful vessel for social change and healing. It plays a significant therapeutic role in my own journey. I also strive to use my art to create transformative social justice awareness.
Currently, I am involved with the Batticaloa School Project. This is an initiative focused on building an efficiently functioning school for the displaced children in Paalarsenai, Sri Lanka. I created a portrait series of these students which narrates their future ambitions, that can only be attainable if they have accessible education. Please click here to learn more about our work.
Two of my other current projects that are not available to be published online yet focus on environmental justice and mental health.
Feel free to browse through my art, and contact me for any orders/commissions. Most of my paintings and photography can be found on this website for your viewing. If you would like to see my work in person, stay connected to be updated regarding gallery exhibitions and showcase dates .
